EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education

·       Minimum of 2 Safety Certificates with recognised Institution, any Engineering Field Diploma is an added advantage.

 

Experience

·       Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Health and Safety

SPECIAL SKILLS TECHNICAL SKILLS

·       Highly responsible & reliable.

·       Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

·       Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team.

·       Ability to focus attention on worker’s needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

COMPUTER SKILLS

·       MS Office skills including Word, Excel and Power point

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE Safety Officers provide safety management, assess risk ,advice, monitoring, reports and design strategies to reduce potential hazards within an assigned workplace or geographic area.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES  
The Safety Officer is responsible for:

  1. Support the development of OHS policies and programs
  2. Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
  3. Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
  4. Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
  5. Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives
  6. Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
  7. Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
  8. Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
  9. Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  10. Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
  11. Ensure all applicable signages are in the right positions as required
  12. Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time related to the Safety at site
 
QUALITY RESPONSIBILITY

The Health and Safety Officer QHSE responsibilities are:

  1. Ensure compliance and enforcement to all QHSE requirements in the   including:
    1. Compliance to the requirements of Kenyan Laws and regulations,
    2. Customer QHSE requirements
    3. PowerGen QHSE requirements and Standards.
  2. Ensure proper documentation, recording and reporting of all Health and Safety processes according to the established SOP
  3. Support HSE auditing and reporting of the Technical process QHSE performance by internal and external auditors, and regulatory bodies;
  4. Identifying, assessing and reducing Powergen’s risks and costs within the   continuously. Such risks are:
    1. Health and Safety,
    2. Financial,
    3. Legal,
    4. Any other relevant risks;
  5. Liaise with the Technical to keep abreast of all applicable legislation and good practice applicable to   health and safety processes;
  6. Support and aid in the development, management, implementation and continual improvement of the QMS.
