EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
Education
· Minimum of 2 Safety Certificates with recognised Institution, any Engineering Field Diploma is an added advantage.
Experience
· Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Health and Safety |

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE |
Safety Officers provide safety management, assess risk ,advice, monitoring, reports and design strategies to reduce potential hazards within an assigned workplace or geographic area. |
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES |

The Safety Officer is responsible for:
- Support the development of OHS policies and programs
- Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
- Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
- Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
- Ensure all applicable signages are in the right positions as required
- Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time related to the Safety at site

QUALITY RESPONSIBILITY
The Health and Safety Officer QHSE responsibilities are:
- Ensure compliance and enforcement to all QHSE requirements in the including:
- Compliance to the requirements of Kenyan Laws and regulations,
- Customer QHSE requirements
- PowerGen QHSE requirements and Standards.
- Ensure proper documentation, recording and reporting of all Health and Safety processes according to the established SOP
- Support HSE auditing and reporting of the Technical process QHSE performance by internal and external auditors, and regulatory bodies;
- Identifying, assessing and reducing Powergen’s risks and costs within the continuously. Such risks are:
- Health and Safety,
- Financial,
- Legal,
- Any other relevant risks;
- Liaise with the Technical to keep abreast of all applicable legislation and good practice applicable to health and safety processes;
- Support and aid in the development, management, implementation and continual improvement of the QMS.
